Our woollen pillows use locally sourced Central Otago sheep wool. This is carefully scoured to remove lanolin, contamination and vegetation. The cleaned wool is then carded which opens the wool fibre, thus creating the loft.
We use a particular sheep breed which has been selected for its high quality wool. This premium wool has amazing spring and bounce in the fibres which maintains pillow loft.
Our Roxburgh wool pillows are not battered (heat bonded) and are not made up of individual loose pieces. They are truly luxurious pillows!
This wool pillow is designed to cradle your head, leaving no air gaps. Wool aids body temperature support, is breathable, non-allergenic, anti static and does not retain moisture or odour. The Roxburgh wool pillow wicks away sweat moisture, keeping you cool in summer.
We take just as much care with the pillow casing. It is made from 100% cotton with an invisible zip closure. This removes any chance of the zip puller pushing into the users face and causing discomfort. It also has a zip facing to stop wool getting caught in the zipper.
Each Roxburgh woollen pillow also comes with a cotton drawstring bag to ensure any wool removed by the user is kept clean for use when needed. We also recommend you use a pillow protector as this is a sustainable long life product (an extra casing cover is available to purchase as a pillow protector).
It is very easy to remove the wool in your pillow to wash the cover, then repack the pillow. To create loft after the wool has settled, it is simple to tease the wool by unzipping, pulling the wool apart to create air and then pushing it back into the casing. To remove sweat moisture just open the casing and aerate the wool. The moisture is dispersed in the atmosphere.
Global studies on wool pillows show the benefits of less sleep disturbance and increased REM sleep (Restful cycle). Our own research from users of our wool pillow show, the pillow stayed in shape, was soft, extremely comfy and wicked away sweat moisture (did not wake with a wet pillow). Another plus was that earrings did not press into the head (so didn’t need to change pillow positions) and it supported body temperature (no need to wear a beanie to bed). This pillow keeps the body heat in when the air is cold and also has the ability to cool in summer. AMAZING!
